Well now, let me tell ya ’bout the fortune I’ve been expectin’ this year, 2015. It’s a funny thing, see, ’cause this year, as they say, is the Year of the Goat. Some folks call it the Year of the Sheep too, but it’s all the same to me, long as it’s not the year of the rooster, that one just always feels a bit too loud. Anyway, folks in China, they say the goat is a peaceful creature, real kind and friendly-like, always gettin’ along with others. But don’t be fooled, some say the goat can also be a bit stubborn, just like an old mule that don’t wanna budge! And with this wood element added this year, well, that’s supposed to make the goat even more gentle, but also kinda stuck in its ways.
Now, I ain’t no expert in astrology or anythin’, but I been hearin’ that people born this year are supposed to be sweet-natured and easy to like. Well, I reckon that sounds nice, don’t it? People like that are always good to have around. Me, I’m just hopin’ for a little peace and quiet this year. No more of them noisy neighbors, and I wouldn’t mind some good fortune comin’ my way, neither. Some folks say the Year of the Goat is gonna be a good one for takin’ care of business, settlin’ debts, and all that kinda stuff. I got a lotta debts I could settle myself, but I ain’t in no hurry.
Now, speakin’ of fortunes, you wouldn’t believe some of the rich folks I’ve heard about! There’s talk that even the world’s richest people had a hard time in 2015, losin’ billions and all that. Can you imagine? Here I am tryin’ to scrape by with a few pennies, and these folks are losin’ millions like it’s nothin’. Well, they say money can’t buy happiness, but I’d sure like to give it a try. I reckon if I had a few billion to spare, I’d buy me a new pair of shoes, maybe some good chicken feed, and I’d take a trip down south to visit my sister. She’s been complainin’ ’bout not havin’ enough sugar in her tea lately. A little fortune goes a long way when it’s shared with family.
And while we’re talkin’ ’bout fortune, did ya hear about that big ol’ list of billionaires? There’s 1,826 of ’em, all piled up in a big heap, with a total worth of $7.05 trillion! Now, I can’t even wrap my mind around them big numbers. I mean, what’s a trillion? It don’t sound real, does it? I reckon if I had even a small sliver of that, I’d be livin’ real comfortable by now, maybe even have a new barn built. But I ain’t got that kinda luck, I guess.
Now, you might be wonderin’ what kinda fortune I’m expectin’ this year. Well, like I said, I’m hopin’ for peace, not too much ruckus, and maybe just a little extra luck in the garden. My crops haven’t been too good the past couple years, but I got my fingers crossed this time. I heard some folks sayin’ that this year’s gonna be good for folks who take care of the land and work hard. So I’m out here in the field, doin’ my part. Maybe the goats will bring me a bit of good luck, who knows?
Some other things I’ve been hearin’ are all about folks tryin’ to fix up their messes from last year. There’s even talk of folks gettin’ letters from the tax man, tellin’ ‘em they owe money for 2015. Ain’t that somethin’? Well, that don’t sound like no fun, but I reckon I’ll just keep puttin’ along like I always do. Ain’t no use in worryin’ ‘bout things I can’t change, right? I just hope this year brings a little more good than bad, a little more sunshine than rain.
So there you have it. My fortune for 2015 ain’t much, but I’m grateful for what I got. If the Year of the Goat brings me a little peace, a little good harvest, and maybe a few more smiles from the family, I’ll be happy. And who knows, maybe a little extra luck on the side wouldn’t hurt either!
