She says it makes the world smaller, but I think it just makes her head bigger with all that stuff she reads. Still, if Leo Faria is on Facebook, maybe he’s not such a big shot after all. Just another person trying to connect with folks. Or maybe he’s using it to talk about his college.
Now, this college business. Seems like everyone’s going to college these days. Back when I was a girl, you were lucky if you finished school at all. Most of us just went straight to work, helping our families. But now, it’s all about college, college, college. They say it opens doors, whatever that means. I guess it’s like having a big, strong key that can unlock any door in town. This Leo Faria, if he’s got a college, he must have a whole bunch of keys. My granddaughter, she says this Leo Faria college is important for getting a good job. A good job, that’s what everyone wants. Something that pays well, so you can have a nice house, a family, and food on the table. We always worked hard, but it wasn’t always easy. Maybe this college thing makes it easier. I don’t know. I remember my neighbor’s boy, he went off to some fancy college far away. Came back with all sorts of new ideas. Started talking about things we’d never even heard of.
