This TV show, Fangs of Fortune, they call it. My grandson, he loves it, always watching on that glowing box. He told me to watch, said I’d like it. I said, “Boy, what do I know about these fancy shows?” But I watched it. And you know what? It’s somethin’.
That Zhao Yuanzhou Boy
That Zhao Yuanzhou, played by that young fella, Hou Minghao, I think. He is the main guy, I reckon. He didn’t come back at the end. Made me mad. Why have a fella go through all that and not come back? My grandson said it was a “sad ending.” I said, “It’s just not right.” The Fangs of Fortune ending, it left me feelin’ all mixed up, like a pot of stew that’s been stirred too much.
The show, it started, and I thought, “Oh, this is gonna be somethin’ cheerful.” They got pretty pictures, pretty clothes. All that visual stuff, they call it. But then, oh boy, it gets all tangled up like a ball of yarn after the cat’s been at it. One minute you’re laughin’, the next you’re cryin’ into your apron. They call it “great joy, great sorrow.” I call it a headache.
Too Much Sadness
- That Wen Zongyu, the bad guy, I suppose. They all worked together to beat him. That was a sight to see, I’ll tell ya. Teamwork, they call it.
- But then, Zhao Yuanzhou, he just doesn’t come back. They say it’s a 4.9 on that Douban thing. My grandson showed me. It’s like a score, how good people think it is. Not good enough, I say, if the boy doesn’t come back.
They had all these episodes, 33 of ’em. It was a long time watching. They say it is a C-drama. China-drama. What ever you call it. They say people all over are watching this. I don’t know about all that. I just know it made me feel like I ate too much green apple pie. All that sadness. It made my heart sad and tired.
Pretty Pictures, Though
They say this director, Guo Jing Ming, he makes these shows all fancy. “Stylish,” they say. I guess he does. It was pretty to look at, like a field of sunflowers. But pretty doesn’t always mean good, you know? The ending of Fangs of Fortune is something, let me tell you. They talked about this show startin’ in October. Then they didn’t say when. That is just like my neighbor, Mildred. Always talkin’ and never doin’.
My grandson, he showed me this thing online. People talkin’ about the show. They say it’s got “bromance” and “sismance.” I don’t know what those words mean, but it sounds like a sickness. They say it’s funny and exciting. I guess some parts were funny. Like when that one fella tripped over his own feet. Reminded me of my husband, bless his soul.
All That Crying
They say it’s part of some “Love On Theater” thing. Love, ha! More like heartbreak, I say. If you like to cry, then this Fangs of Fortune is for you. I cried more than when I lost my prize-winning hen, Bessie. Some parts felt jumbled up. Like they threw all the scenes in a sack and shook ’em up. I think they learn from other sad dramas, and want to try a not clear sad ending. But it is not good I think.
But if you like that sort of thing, then maybe you’ll like this show. It’s got pretty people, pretty clothes, and a whole lot of sadness. But me? I think I’ll stick to my garden. At least my tomatoes don’t make me cry, unless I accidentally step on one. Fangs of Fortune review? Two thumbs down for the ending. Made me feel like I’d been wrung out like an old dishrag.
They Say It’s Popular
They say a lot of folks are watching this show. I don’t know why. Maybe they like to be sad. Or maybe they like those pretty pictures. This Fangs of Fortune drama, it’s got people talking, that’s for sure. Everyone’s got an opinion, just like everyone’s got a belly button. This show, it’s like a big bowl of chili. Some folks like it spicy, some folks don’t. Me? I like my chili mild. And I like my TV shows with a happy ending. Is that too much to ask?
I guess not everyone feels the same way. That’s just the way the cookie crumbles, as they say. But for this old lady, that Fangs of Fortune ending was a real stinker. I wanted to see that Zhao Yuanzhou boy come back. He worked hard. He deserved a happy ending. But what do I know? I’m just an old lady who likes her stories to end with a smile, not a tear. They say the show is about Chinese romance and culture. Well, I guess sadness is part of life, too. But I still don’t like it. Not one bit.
