Alright, let me tell ya ’bout this Mt. Taurus place, up in New York, ya know? Folks call it Bull Hill too, but Mt. Taurus sounds fancier, don’t it? Anyways, it’s a mountain, a big ol’ hill, really. Right by that Hudson River. They say it’s part of them Highlands, whatever that means. Just a buncha hills if ya ask me.
Now, the story goes, and this is what I heard tell, there was this mean ol’ bull. Mean as a snake, that one was. Used to scare the bejesus outta folks livin’ ’round here. Terrorizin’ the whole mountain, they say. So, these fellas, they got fed up, ya see? Wouldn’t stand for it no more. So, they got together, a whole huntin’ party, like. And they chased that bull. Yup, chased him right up that mountain.
- They wanted to get rid of that bull, see?
- He was causin’ too much trouble.
- Nobody wants a mean bull runnin’ around.
So, they chased him and chased him, tryin’ to get him over the hill. And I guess they did, ’cause that’s how the mountain got its name, or so they say. Mt. Taurus, after that bull. Makes ya think, don’t it? All that fuss over a bull.
But these days, it ain’t about no bull. It’s about walkin’. People go there to hike. They call it a “loop hike,” which just means ya go up and around and come back down the same way, I reckon. They say it’s fun, and kinda hard, but not too hard. “Moderately challenging,” them fancy folks call it. I just call it a good walk.
It’s a pretty place, though. I’ll give it that. You can see the river and all them trees. Good for the soul, some say. Gets ya outta the house, anyways. Fresh air and all that. Better than sittin’ around watchin’ the TV, that’s for sure.
I went there once, with my daughter and her kids. Little tykes were runnin’ all over the place. Had a good time, though. Packed a lunch, ate it by the river. Saw some birds, squirrels too. The usual stuff. But it was nice. Quiet. Peaceful. Except for the kids, of course. They ain’t never quiet.
If you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to do, and you like walkin’, then Mt. Taurus might be worth a visit. Just watch out for them bulls! Just kiddin’. Ain’t no bulls there no more. Just hills and trees and folks walkin’ around. But it’s a good place to spend a day, if ya ask me. Get some exercise, see some pretty things. Can’t hurt, can it?
So, that’s the story of Mt. Taurus, as best as I can tell it. A mountain with a funny name and a good view. And a whole lotta walkin’ if you’re up for it. Just remember to bring good shoes, ’cause it ain’t no flat sidewalk up there, ya hear?
And that’s all there is to it. Mt. Taurus. Bull Hill. Whatever ya wanna call it. It’s just a nice place to go for a walk and get some fresh air, ya know? Nothin’ fancy, just good, plain nature. And that’s the best kind, if you ask me.
