Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this here “backroom casting couch virgo” thing. I ain’t no fancy city gal, ya know? I’m just a plain ol’ woman, but I’ve seen a thing or two. And this “casting couch” stuff, well, it ain’t right, not one bit.
What is this Backroom Casting Couch anyway? I heard folks talkin’, whisperin’ mostly, about how some young girls, and boys too, I reckon, they go tryin’ to get a job in them picture shows, or them singin’ and dancin’ things. And these big shots, the ones with the money and the power, they tell these youngsters, “Oh, you wanna be a star? Well, you gotta do somethin’ for me first.” That somethin’, it ain’t nothin’ good, let me tell ya. It’s dirty, and it’s wrong. They’re askin’ for favors, favors that ain’t got nothin’ to do with talent or hard work. They’re taking advantage, plain and simple.
Now, this “virgo” part, I ain’t too sure what that means. Sounds like some kinda star sign, like them things they print in the newspapers. My neighbor, she’s always readin’ about them stars. Says they control your life or somethin’. I don’t hold with that much, but maybe, just maybe, it means these young folks are new to the whole thing, innocent like. Makes it even worse, don’t it? Preying on the innocent, that’s just low down.
- It’s about Power and Exploitation
- Young people get tricked
- It’s just plain wrong
I heard someone sayin’ somethin’ about “ethical casting” and “industry accountability.” Sounds like big words, but I get the gist of it. It means treatin’ folks fair, givin’ ’em a chance based on what they can do, not what they’re willin’ to do in the dark. It means holdin’ these big shots responsible for their actions. They can’t just go around treatin’ people like dirt and gettin’ away with it.
And this “no more casting couch” thing, well, that’s somethin’ I can get behind. We gotta protect our young folks, gotta make sure they ain’t gettin’ taken advantage of. We gotta teach ’em that their bodies are their own, and they don’t owe nobody nothin’. We gotta tell ’em to speak up, to tell someone if somethin’ ain’t right.
I ain’t got no fancy solutions, no big city ideas. I’m just a simple woman. But I know right from wrong. And this casting couch stuff, it’s wrong. It’s hurtin’ people, and it’s gotta stop.
We need to talk more about this problem. Folks gotta know what’s goin’ on. Shine a light on these dark corners, that’s what we gotta do. And we gotta support them young folks who are brave enough to speak out, to tell their stories. They ain’t got nothin’ to be ashamed of. It’s the ones doin’ the takin’ advantage who should be ashamed.
Now, some folks might say, “Oh, it’s just the way things are, it’s always been like this.” But that don’t make it right. Just because somethin’s been happenin’ for a long time don’t mean we gotta keep lettin’ it happen. We can change things. We gotta change things. For the sake of our children, and our grandchildren, and all the young folks comin’ up after them.
So, this “backroom casting couch virgo,” whatever it is exactly, it sounds like trouble. And we gotta stand up to trouble. We gotta be strong, we gotta be loud, and we gotta say, “Enough is enough!” We ain’t gonna let these big shots get away with it anymore. We’re gonna protect our own, and we’re gonna make sure they get a fair shake. That’s all there is to it.
Safe Auditions and Respectful Treatment should be the rule, not the exception. Nobody should have to trade their dignity for a chance at a dream. It’s time we put a stop to this “casting couch” nonsense and make sure everyone gets a fair and respectful opportunity.
