Alright, so you wanna know about this… uh… “divination wizard” in that Baldur’s Gate 3 game, huh? My grandkids keep yappin’ about it. Sounds like a whole lotta hocus pocus to me, but I’ll tell ya what I know, the way I know how.
First off, this “wizard” thing. Sounds fancy, like them city folk with their big words. But from what I gather, it’s just a fella or gal who can sling spells. You know, like makin’ fireballs or readin’ minds, that kinda stuff. Powerful magic, they say. Not like the little charms we used to make back in the day, with herbs and such.
Now, this “divination” part… that’s where it gets tricky. It’s like… seein’ the future, kinda. Or knowin’ what’s gonna happen before it does. My old granny used to say she could read the tea leaves, but I always thought she was just makin’ it up. But these wizards, they got some kinda special somethin’ that lets ‘em peek into tomorrow, or maybe just a few minutes ahead.
- They got these things called “portent dices.” Sounds like a gamble to me, but apparently, you roll ‘em in the mornin’ and then you can use them numbers later to make things go your way. Like, if you rolled a real high number, you can make an enemy miss their attack. Or if you rolled a low number, you can make ‘em fail their savin’ throw. Smart, ain’t it? Cheatin’, but smart.
- And then there’s “inspiration dices.” Don’t rightly know how you get them, but they’re kinda like the portent ones, I guess. Just another way to fudge the numbers in your favor. Them wizards, always lookin’ for an edge.
Now, from what them kids are sayin’, there’s all sorts of ways to be a wizard. Like, you can be a fire-slingin’ wizard, or a protective wizard, or this divination kind. And apparently, you can even mix and match, like puttin’ different kinds of beans in your stew. They call it “multiclass,” I think.
The good thing about this divination wizard, see, is that they can learn pretty much any spell they want. They find these old scrolls, and they just read ‘em and bam! New spell in their head. Don’t seem fair, does it? All them years I spent learnin’ to make a decent apple pie, and these wizards just pick up magic like it’s nothin’. Powerful spells too, not just little parlor tricks.
So, why’s this divination wizard so good? Well, it’s like havin’ a secret weapon. You know what’s comin’, so you can plan for it. You can make sure your spells hit, and make sure the bad guys miss. It’s like havin’ a crystal ball, but better, ‘cause you can actually do somethin’ about what you see. You ain’t just watchin’ the chickens get eaten by the fox, you’re stoppin’ it before it happens.
But it ain’t all sunshine and roses, mind you. These wizards, they ain’t exactly tough guys. They’re good at slingin’ spells, but if somethin’ gets up close and personal, they’re in trouble. Like a fancy rooster, all puffed up and crowin’ till the dog gets in the henhouse. They need their friends to protect ‘em, the fighters and the paladins and such. Gotta have someone to watch your back, especially when you’re busy starin’ into the future.
Now, I heard tell there’s other kinds of wizards too. Like this “evocation” wizard, who’s all about blastin’ things with fire and such. Sounds like a whole lotta noise to me. And there’s “abjuration” wizards, who are good at protectin’ themselves and their friends. But them kids keep sayin’ that the divination, abjuration and evocation wizards are the best, the real powerhouses.
But for my money, I’d take the one who can see what’s comin’. Knowledge is power, ain’t it? Always has been, always will be. Whether you’re readin’ the weather signs to know when to plant your crops, or readin’ the portent dices to know when to sling your spells, it’s all the same. Knowing is half the battle, like that old general used to say.
So, that’s the long and short of it. Divination wizards, they see the future, they cheat the odds, and they sling powerful spells. They ain’t the toughest, but they sure are smart. And in this world, whether it’s Baldur’s Gate or just plain old life, bein’ smart is often better than bein’ strong. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my chickens. Them foxes are always lookin’ for a free meal.
And one more thing, them wizards, they need to rest sometime, can’t be slingin’ spells all day and night, wear themselves out, they will. Just like us, need a good night’s sleep to be any good. So don’t think they’re some kinda all-powerful beings, they got their limits too. Just like everybody else.
