Okay, so I finally got around to checking out the Constellation Trail in Prescott. I’d heard about it for ages, and with the weather being so nice, I figured it was time to hit the trail.
Getting Started
First, I looked up some basic info online – you know, trailhead location, difficulty, that sort of thing. Seemed pretty straightforward. I packed a small backpack with some water, snacks, my phone (for photos, of course!), and a basic first-aid kit. Better safe than sorry, right?
I drove out to the trailhead, which was easy enough to find. There’s a decent-sized parking lot, but I can see how it could fill up quickly on a busy weekend. I got there fairly early, so I snagged a good spot.
On the Trail
The trail itself is pretty well-maintained. It’s mostly dirt and rock, with some slightly steeper inclines here and there. Nothing too crazy, though. I’d say it’s a good moderate hike – you’ll get your heart rate up, but it’s not super strenuous.
I walked for about 2 hours,It’s beautiful. Seriously. The views of the surrounding area are amazing. You can see for miles! And the granite formations along the trail are really cool. I stopped a few times just to take it all in and snap some pictures.
- Keep an eye out for the interpretive signs along the way. They give you some background on the area’s history and geology. I actually learned a few things!
- There are a couple of different loops you can take, so you can kind of customize your hike based on how much time you have and how far you want to go.I walked a small loop.
- I saw some wildlife – mostly birds and lizards. I’ve heard there are sometimes deer and other critters around, but I didn’t spot any on this trip.
Wrapping Up
After a few hours of hiking, I headed back to the car. I was definitely feeling it in my legs, but it was a good kind of tired. I grabbed some lunch in town and then drove home, already thinking about my next hike.
Overall, I had a great time on the Constellation Trail. It’s a beautiful, accessible hike, and I’d definitely recommend it. Next time, I might try one of the longer loops!
