glass beaded bracelet

Well, let’s talk about these glass beaded bracelets, shall we? I don’t know much fancy stuff, but I can tell you what I see.

What are these bracelets anyway?

They’re just little shiny things you wear on your wrist, you know? Made of glass beads, all strung together. Some are plain, some are all colorful and fancy. I’ve seen some that look like they got little flowers inside ‘em, them murano ones, they call ‘em. Pretty things, they are. Some folks say they bring good luck, but I ain’t so sure about that. It’s just a bracelet, ain’t it? But they do make ya feel a bit prettier, I guess.

Lots of different kinds, you know?

You got your simple ones, just a string of beads, all the same color. Then you got your fancy ones, with all sorts of different colors and patterns. Some got big beads, some got little tiny ones. I saw some online, they call ‘em “bohemian” or something, lots of them all stacked up together. Looks like a lot of jingle jangle to me, but young folks like ‘em. And then there’s those “kandi” bracelets, the kids make ‘em with letters and stuff. Seems like a lot of work to me, but they have fun with it. You can even get kits to make your own, with all the beads and string and everything. I reckon that’s nice if you got the time and the patience. I’d rather just buy one ready-made, myself.

Where do you get ‘em?

Well, you can get ‘em just about anywhere these days. I’ve seen ‘em at the craft stores, them big ones in the city, and even at the little shops downtown. And of course, you can get ‘em online, on that there Amazon thing my grandson showed me. They got everything on there, it seems. Prices all over the place too. Some are cheap as dirt, some cost a pretty penny. I guess it depends on how fancy you want to get. I saw some handmade ones that were real pretty, but they cost more, of course. You gotta pay for the work, I suppose.

  • Cheap ones: Just a few dollars, maybe. Good for the kids, or if you just want something simple.
  • Fancy ones: These can cost you twenty, thirty dollars, or even more. Especially if they’re handmade or got special beads.
  • Kits: If you want to make your own, you can get a kit for ten or fifteen dollars, depends on how many beads you get.

Why do people wear ‘em?

Well, like I said, some folks think they bring good luck. Or maybe they just like the way they look. They’re pretty, ain’t they? And they can dress up an outfit, make ya feel a little bit special. I saw something online about them helping with your “chi” or something, making the energy flow better. Sounded like a load of hooey to me, but what do I know? Some people wear ‘em for a special reason, maybe to remember someone or something. I got a bracelet my daughter gave me, it ain’t glass beads, but I wear it every day. Just makes me feel close to her, you know?

Taking care of your bracelets.

Now, you gotta be careful with these glass beaded bracelets, ‘cause they can break, you know? Don’t go banging ‘em around, and don’t wear ‘em when you’re doing dishes or cleaning. And don’t let the little ones get a hold of ‘em, they’ll pull ‘em apart in a heartbeat. If they get dirty, just wipe ‘em off with a damp cloth. Don’t go dunking ‘em in water, might ruin the string or something. And keep ‘em away from that hairspray and perfume, that stuff can make ‘em cloudy.

So, should you get one?

Well, that’s up to you, ain’t it? If you like the way they look, and you don’t mind spending a few dollars, then why not? They ain’t gonna change your life or anything, but they might make you smile a little bit. And sometimes, that’s all you need. I got a few myself, wear ‘em when I go to church or to bingo. Makes me feel a little bit dressed up. And that’s good enough for me.
