Alright, so ya wanna know about this here altar thing in the sky, the one they call a constellation? Sounds fancy, but it ain’t that hard to understand. I heard some folks callin’ it “Ara”, which is some kinda foreign word for altar, I reckon. Like them city folks with their big words.
Now, this Ara thing, it’s just a bunch of stars all bunched together, making a picture like. You know, like when you look at the clouds and see a dog or a bunny? Well, this time it’s an altar. I ain’t never seen a real altar up there though, just stars. They say it’s way down south in the sky, kinda squeezed in between some other star pictures, like Scorpius – that’s the scorpion, I think – and some other names I can’t even pronounce. Telescope-something, triangle-something, and Norma. Sounds like a bunch of gibberish to me.
This star altar ain’t no big thing in the sky, ya know. They say it’s like, the 63rd biggest star picture out of 88. So, it’s pretty small potatoes in the grand scheme of things. Covers up a tiny bit of the sky, they say, less than one percent. I wouldn’t even know how to measure that, but that’s what them smart folks say.
Some folks like to do these crossword puzzles, you know, them little word games in the newspaper. And sometimes, they ask about this altar constellation. They’ll put in a clue like “altar constellation” and you gotta figure out what word fits. Sometimes it’s “Ara,” sometimes it’s just “Altar.” I guess it depends on how many letters they need. I tried one of them crosswords once, but it gave me a headache. Too much thinkin’ for an old lady like me.
Seems like this altar thing shows up in them crosswords all the time. I heard tell they’ve seen it in there more than 20 times! Must be a popular clue. And they got all sorts of different newspapers that use it, like that Daily Themed Crossword, or that Eugene Sheffer one, or even the LA Times one. I don’t read none of them fancy papers myself. I just stick to the local news, seein’ what’s happenin’ in town.
- So, if you see “altar constellation” in a crossword, you know it’s probably “Ara.” Or just plain “Altar.”
- It’s a small bunch of stars, way down south.
- And it ain’t nothin’ to be scared of, just a picture made of stars.
Anyways, I don’t see what all the fuss is about. It’s just a bunch of stars. But I guess some folks find it interesting. Me? I’d rather look at the real stars, the ones that twinkle so bright on a clear night. Now those are somethin’ to see. And you don’t need no fancy crossword puzzle to enjoy them.
But if you are stuck on that crossword clue, remember what I told ya. “Ara” or “Altar” is your best bet. And don’t you worry none if you can’t figure it out right away. Just take a deep breath and try again. It’s just a game, after all. No need to get all worked up over it.
And if you are still having problems, well just ask someone who does those things, I don’t know much about it anyway! I’m good at knowing what the weather’s gonna be, if it’ll rain. That’s what’s important to me, not some words in a box.
So that’s about all I know about that there Altar constellation. Not much, I know. But I hope it helped ya some. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. My stomach’s startin’ to rumble.
