Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get into gemstone stuff for a while, and I finally took the plunge. I decided to start with a green jade mala – I heard it’s good for boosting energy. I am going to make my own mala, yeah!
Finding the Right Beads
First, I searched for some good quality green jade beads. This took a while! There are so many options online, it’s kinda overwhelming. I finally found a shop that seemed legit and ordered a strand of 8mm beads. They looked so pretty in the pictures, all smooth and polished.
Gathering My Supplies
While I waited for the beads to arrive, I gathered the rest of my supplies. I needed:
- Strong cord (I chose a stretchy kind, just in case)
- A guru bead (this is the bigger bead at the end)
- A tassel (I went with a simple green one)
- Scissors
- Some glue (just a dab, for extra security)
The Stringing Process
When the beads finally arrived, I was so excited! I laid everything out on my table and got started. I measured out a length of cord, leaving plenty of extra for knotting. Then, the fun part: stringing the beads! It was actually really relaxing, just focusing on the feel of the smooth stones and the rhythm of the process. I had to re-start a few times because I am so clumsy!
After I strung all 108 beads (yep, that’s the traditional number), I added the guru bead. Then I carefully tied a knot, pulling it super tight. I added a tiny drop of glue to the knot, just to be sure it wouldn’t come undone. Then, after the knot, is the tassel, and I tied that on.
Admiring My Work (and Feeling the Energy!)
Finally, it was done! My very own green jade mala. I have to say, it looks pretty awesome. I held it in my hands, feeling the weight of the beads, and I could almost feel the energy radiating from them. Whether that’s real or just my imagination, I don’t know, but I definitely feel a sense of calm and focus when I use it.
I’ve been wearing it around my wrist and using it during meditation. So far, so good! I do feel a bit more energized and grounded. Maybe it’s the jade, maybe it’s the practice of making it myself, or maybe it’s just a placebo effect – but hey, whatever works, right? I’m calling this a win!
