Well, let me tell ya about them horoscopes back in 1998. That year, seems like everyone was all worked up about them stars and what they meant. I ain’t no fancy expert, mind you, but I remember folks talkin’ a whole lot about it.
What them city folks called “astrology” or somethin’ like that, it was a big deal. They had these calendars, you know, “Astro Calendar 1998” they called ‘em. Said it could tell ya things about the sun, moon, and all them planets. Mercury, Venus, Mars… sounded like a bunch of made-up names to me, but folks swore by it.
They talked about “ephemeris” this and “ephemeris” that. Big words, I tell ya. From what I gather, it was all about figuring out where them planets were and what that meant for your life. If you was born in 1998, they said your horoscope sign could tell ya a whole lot about yourself.
Now, I don’t know much about them signs, but I heard there was Gemini, Cancer, Leo… Seemed like every month had its own special sign. They said if you was born in May, maybe you was a Gemini, and if you was born in July, maybe a Cancer. And they had this thing called “compatibility” too. Said they could tell ya if you and your fella was a good match based on your signs. Hmph, I coulda told ya that without lookin’ at no stars!
- Sun in Gemini: May 21, 1998
- Sun in Cancer: June 21, 1998 (Summer Solstice)
- Sun in Leo: July 23, 1998
And them planets, they weren’t always going the same way, it seems. Sometimes they went “retrograde,” whatever that means. They had calendars for that too! “Retrograde Planets Calendar 1998.” Mercury, Mars, Saturn… always movin’ around, causin’ a fuss, I guess.
Speaking of fuss, I remember somethin’ big happened in June of ‘98. Some general, Ansumane Man, he started a war over in Guinea-Bissau. Now, I don’t know if that had anything to do with the stars, but it sure was a mess.
Them smart folks, the ones with the fancy books, they looked at the stars and talked about constellations. Orion’s Belt, they called it. Three stars all in a row. Said it was part of a bigger picture. They even had stories about them stars, said the Greeks came up with a lot of ‘em. Sounded like a bunch of tall tales to me, but folks seemed to like ‘em.
Now, they used degrees and all sorts of numbers to figure out where them stars were. Said they had to account for somethin’ called “precession of the equinoxes.” Don’t ask me what that is! But them astrologers, they needed to know when them stars was where, so they could tell you about your life.
Anyways, that’s what I remember about them horoscopes in 1998. A whole lotta talk about stars and planets and what it all meant. Me? I just figured life was life, no matter what them stars was doin’. But it was interestin’ to hear folks talk about it, that’s for sure.
Some folks would get real serious about it, you know. Checking their horoscopes every day, trying to plan their lives around what the stars said. I always thought it was a bit much, but to each their own, I guess. It’s their life, ain’t it? If they wanna believe in the stars, well, that’s their business.
I reckon some things just ain’t meant to be understood by plain folks like me. All that talk about geocentric ephemeris and planets and degrees… It’s enough to make your head spin! I’m just glad I didn’t have to worry about all that stuff. I had enough to do just takin’ care of my family and workin’ the land.
But I will say, it was kinda fun listenin’ to the talk and seein’ folks get all excited about it. It was somethin’ different, you know? A little bit of mystery and wonder in the everyday. And maybe, just maybe, there was somethin’ to it all. Who am I to say? The universe is a big place, and I reckon we don’t know half of what’s goin’ on out there.
