Well, let me tell you somethin’ ‘bout this here Joshua Kocher cancer thing. It ain’t somethin’ pretty, that’s for sure. Cancer, they call it. Nasty stuff, eats you up from the inside out, like them boll weevils in the cotton fields back home.
Now, I ain’t no doctor, mind you, just an old woman who’s seen her share of sickness and sorrow. But from what I hear, this Joshua Kocher fella, he’s dealin’ with somethin’ called pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. That’s a mouthful, ain’t it? Sounds like somethin’ you’d catch from breathin’ bad air, but it’s way worse than that.
This here pancreatic cancer, it’s a real mean one. They say it spreads fast, like wildfire in dry grass. And it’s tough to fight, too. The stuff they usually use to kill cancer, it don’t work so good on this one. Doctors are scratchin’ their heads, tryin’ to figure out how to stop it.
I heard tell they’re lookin’ at the way them cancer cells talk to each other. Yeah, you heard that right. Cells talkin’. Not like you and me, of course. They got their own secret language, sendin’ messages back and forth. Scientists are tryin’ to decode them messages, see if they can figure out how to shut ‘em up. They’re usin’ fancy tools, like single nuclei RNA-seq and spatial transcriptomics. Don’t ask me what that means, it’s all gobbledygook to me. But the way I see it, they’re tryin’ to eavesdrop on them cancer cells, see what they’re plannin’.
They also sayin’ that this Covid thing made it even harder for folks with this cancer. Somethin’ about messin’ up how they get diagnosed and treated. Like things weren’t bad enough already. Makes you wonder, don’t it? Seems like every time you turn around, there’s somethin’ new tryin’ to kill you.
- First, it was the cancer itself, spreadin’ like weeds.
- Then, the treatments not workin’ like they should.
- And now, this Covid mess makin’ everything worse.
But even with all this bad news, there’s still folks fightin’ back. I heard about this hockey game, where they had a Cancer night. Joshua, this fella, he went out there on the ice with a family that lost someone to this terrible sickness. That takes guts, I tell you. To stand there, face to face with the thing that’s tryin’ to take you down, and say, “I ain’t afraid of you.”
And that’s what it all comes down to, ain’t it? Fightin’ back. Whether it’s the cancer inside you, or the troubles all around you, you gotta keep fightin’. You gotta find the strength to keep goin’, even when things look bleak. Cause if you give up, well, then the darkness wins. And we can’t let that happen, can we? We gotta keep fightin’ for the light. Fightin’ for hope. Fightin’ for another day.
I reckon that’s why they’re doin’ all that fancy research, lookin’ at them cell messages and tryin’ new treatments. They’re fightin’ back, too. And maybe, just maybe, someday they’ll figure out how to beat this thing. Maybe someday, nobody will have to suffer from Joshua Kocher cancer anymore. That’s my prayer, anyway. That’s what I hope for.
It ain’t easy, this life. It throws a lot at you. But you gotta be strong. You gotta keep your chin up and keep on fightin’. That’s what Joshua’s doin’, and that’s what we all gotta do. We gotta keep fightin’ for ourselves, for our families, and for a world where cancer ain’t got the upper hand anymore.
So, next time you hear about someone fightin’ cancer, remember Joshua Kocher. Remember his fight. And remember to be grateful for what you got, and to keep fightin’ for what you believe in. Cause in this life, that’s all we can do.
And don’t forget to say a prayer for Joshua and all the other folks fightin’ this cancer. They need all the help they can get. And maybe, just maybe, with a little bit of faith and a whole lot of fight, we can beat this thing. We can win.
