Well now, let me tell ya how my fortune went in 2016. I don’t know much about them fancy things like astrology or that Bloomberg stuff they talk about on the news, but I do know a thing or two about luck, and 2016 had a little bit of both good and bad in it for me.
First off, folks always ask me, “Did ya make any money last year, granny?” Well, if ya count a few extra pennies in my piggy bank, then sure, I guess I did alright. I don’t got no fancy investments or none of them things. But I did set a little goal for myself to save up a bit. Ain’t much, but I managed to put aside a hundred thousand in net worth—now that’s something, huh? That was a big ol’ stretch goal, I thought I wouldn’t be able to do it, but by the end of the year, it was there. Not bad for an old woman who still doesn’t know how to work them fancy computers.
What about love, you ask? Well, now, that’s a different story. Ain’t nobody out there wanting to take this old gal on a fancy date, but I reckon I got love in my life in other ways. I love my family, I love the chickens, I love the garden, and, well, that’s enough for me. Ain’t always about having someone to hold your hand—sometimes, the love you got around you is enough to keep you going.
And as for the job? Oh dear, I ain’t got no job, unless you count looking after the house and making sure everything’s in order. But I do think I worked pretty hard this year. I ain’t gonna be out there making a fortune like them people in fancy offices, but I’m content with what I got. If you’re happy with the work your hands do, well, then you’ve made it. But I will say, my fortunes did improve a little bit, even if it ain’t the way them fancy people talk about it. Sometimes a little luck goes a long way.
- Found a bit of extra cash stashed in the kitchen drawer—just enough for a new pair of boots.
- The crops did alright this year, more than enough beans to last us through the winter.
- Had a few extra folks come over for supper—gotta love when people show up to share a meal.
As for the rest of the world, well, some folks did a lot better than me. I heard that them big-time folks, the ones in them big cities, made a lot more money. I mean, I don’t understand all that about billionaires and stocks, but from what I hear, them Forbes 400 folks got even richer. You know, them folks who own the big businesses, the ones who can buy anything they want and still have plenty left over. One day I hope to own something fancy like that, but I think I’ll stick with my garden for now.
2016 wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, though. We had some troubles in the world, didn’t we? Folks losing jobs, some people getting sick, and don’t even get me started on that whole political mess. They kept saying it was the year of the Fire Monkey in them Chinese zodiac things, and I gotta say, it felt like a fiery mess at times. But what can you do? You just gotta keep on going, keep on working, and hope the next year brings a little more luck your way.
Now, what’s 2017 gonna bring? Well, I don’t know much about the stars and the horoscopes and all that, but I’ll tell ya one thing: I’m gonna keep doing my best. Ain’t nothing fancy about it, just work hard, love your people, and take what comes. If luck’s on your side, then you’ll have enough to get by, and maybe even a little extra to share with the ones who need it.
So, if you’re reading this, and wondering what your fortune’s gonna be, don’t let nobody tell ya that it’s all about them big dreams. Sometimes it’s the little things that matter—the love you got, the work you do, and a little luck to make the year just a bit brighter. Let’s hope 2017 brings a good crop, some good health, and maybe a few more pennies in the pocket.
