In the circle of friends, I’m often a semi-goddess of the mystical, with a basic understanding of the esoteric. Today, let’s chat about some of these mystical topics: Areconstellation forecasts accurate? Are Tarot cards reliable? Does BaZi (eight characters) analysis of true love work? Are these all "scams" to make money?
Remember when some astrology apps or self-media platforms with a focus on divination got the attention of investors and secured some funding? When relationships are rocky, people turn to masters; when careers are stagnant, they seek guidance. They might consult Tarot cards to see if there’s a love affair coming up, when they might get married, or what their true love might be like. When life is tough, anxiety is high, and the future is uncertain, people might lean on these so-called "future-seeing" theories. It’s like how many people say that before an organization chooses a location, they’ll consult a feng shui master to check it out. Businesspeople, more or less, believe in some of these practices, or set up formations, invite lucky charms, and so on.

Now, let’s talk about my attitude towards mysticism: I’ve done some basic research on the three major systems (astrology, BaZi, and ZhiWei DouShu) and use them as tools for seeking benefits and avoiding harm, and for understanding myself. With a bit of knowledge, I won’t be conned by charlatans and I seek out trustworthy consultants who are knowledgeable in BaZi or astrology. I’m not 100% convinced (after all, there are many systems and many schools within those systems), but I keep an open mind and study them as a hobby, forming my own judgments.
- What are the concepts in mysticism?
I first learned about Tarot cards and astrology, then about BaZi and feng shui, and finally about ZhiWei DouShu. The three areas I’ve touched upon include Western astrology and Tarot cards, Chinese BaZi and feng shui, zodiac signs, palmistry, and face reading, and ZhiWei DouShu, which is also Chinese. Taiwan seems to have been quite popular with ZhiWei DouShu, while Hong Kong is more inclined to believe in BaZi.
- Are Tarot cards accurate?
It’s generally recommended that Tarot cards are relatively accurate for predicting events within six months. It’s not advisable to divine beyond six months because Tarot is a tool for predicting the future based on the present, so the further into the future, the less accurate it becomes.
I personally believe more in star charts, BaZi, and ZhiWei DouShu based on birthdates. I’ve experimented with Tarot card divination, even when I was traveling in Korea, just for fun. It doesn’t hold much significance for me personally since understanding one’s birthdate is the fundamental aspect. Tarot cards rely heavily on the reader’s ability to interpret the cards, and finding a reliable reader is not easy. Without proper knowledge, there’s a high chance of wasting money on fees.

What is a star chart:
The usual stuff about Scorpios being dark, Virgos being picky, etc., is all based on sun signs. For example, someone born on January 1st is a Capricorn. Western astrology is more than just sun signs; it includes rising signs, moon, Venus, Mars, and various other planets and asteroids. With someone’s birthday (year, month, day, time), you can use online tools to get a free star chart and understand your entire chart. This includes planets, asteroids, the houses where the planets are located, the angles and phases between planets, the natal chart, comparative charts between two people, composite charts, and transit charts, which is a very complex system. Without a lot of time to delve into it, you can only understand the basics. -
Which public accounts are just for entertainment and not to be taken seriously:
So, anything based solely on sun signs, like recent luck in love or finance, is purely for entertainment. Take a close look at the tags on Tongdao Dashi, who first gained fame on Weibo as a well-known astrology blogger. On WeChat, his positioning is as a popular cartoonist, and his content is marked as purely for entertainment. If you just want to have fun reading it, that’s fine, but taking it seriously is unnecessary. After all, one sun sign is too narrow to divide everyone into 12 types and say anything meaningful. The 81 charts were popular at first, and in recent years, constellation apps have also become very popular. They can be used as a basic reference, includingconstellation, BaZi, and ZhiWei DouShu, but they are still mostly for entertainment. Now there are also some emotional public accounts that focus on small asteroids like to talk about relationships, which is a bit awkward when the major planets haven’t been explained clearly. I prefer to get information about star charts from astrologers who have some research rather than from an emotional public account. This is just a starting point for emotional counseling to attract traffic. All these that focus on one sun sign or a small asteroid are very one-sided for an individual’s entire chart.
Horoscopes usually include sun sign and rising sign forecasts.
Horoscopes have daily, weekly, monthly, and annual forecasts, based on the Gregorian calendar (solar calendar).
A) Accounts that haven’t written weekly, monthly, or annual forecasts for all 12 signs for a long time can be ignored. Susan Miller spent a lot of time researching and writing aboutconstellation during her college years, even when others were on summer vacation. This kind of research requires interest and a lot of time.
B) Accounts that don’t specify whether they are looking at sun signs or rising signs can also be ignored.
- If you want to takeconstellation forecasts seriously and understand your star chart:
Recommended:
-constellation: Start withconstellation groups, where enthusiasts translate and shareconstellation forecasts from domestic and international astrologers. After reading a lot, you’ll develop preferences for certain astrologers and know whether they are more accurate with rising or sun signs. Whether you want to check your monthly or daily forecasts depends on your personal preference.
- Star chart divination: If you want to calculate your star chart, it’s best to do some research and find a reliable astrologer. You can browse through Weibo, WeChat, and find some astrologers’ past writings to understand them better. You can then communicate with them to see if they are suitable.
- Is BaZi compatibility for partners accurate? Does fortune-telling make your fate thinner? Is fate predetermined?
- What is BaZi?
BaZi is also based on birthdates, with two heavenly stems and earthly branches for each year, month, day, and time, making a total of eight characters. Knowing your time of birth makes it more accurate, but it can still be calculated without it. There are many websites online where you can get a free BaZi chart.
- What is true love in BaZi?
True love (zheng yuan) refers to the true soulmate or significant other. All the features seen in one’s chart, BaZi, or ZhiWei DouShu, are general characteristics of a type of person, not a specific individual. Therefore, the saying that fate is predetermined to a specific person does not hold in mysticism.
- BaZi compatibility?
If you want to calculate your annual fortune or life summary, you can do so with your birthdate. To see if a couple is compatible, you need the other person’s BaZi. Masters will usually tell you if it’s moderately compatible, highly compatible, or not, indicating whether marriage is favorable. Whether the couple will stay together or get divorced still needs to be determined from each individual’s BaZi. For example, if you want to see if you and your current partner are compatible, if it doesn’t match the features of your partner in your BaZi, some readers might say it’s generally compatible but not explicitly state it. It’s best to understand your own BaZi first before considering marriage. BaZi that are very compatible or very incompatible are less likely to marry, while those with some compatibility and some incompatibility are more likely to do so. It’s easy to understand in life too; two people must have both similarities and differences that need to be reconciled. Too similar or too different couples are hard to stay together.
- Does fortune-telling make your fate thinner?
There’s a saying that fortune-telling can make your fate thinner, but it’s usually not the case. Temples may have this belief, but with BaZi, it’s more fixed and not constantly calculated. If you keep consulting different masters, it’s unnecessary. The differences between different schools of thought are significant, and many hold their own theories.
- Is fate predetermined? 100% accurate?
Not necessarily. You might have heard of the saying, "Fate is three parts, luck is seven parts." The exact ratio is up to you, but it’s just a tool for understanding or a theory. Different schools of thought have different ideas, and fate is still in your own hands.
- How do you read ZhiWei DouShu?
ZhiWei DouShu can also be read through online apps by entering your birthdate. Like BaZi, ZhiWei DouShu has significant differences between schools of thought, so finding a suitable master requires some basic research and understanding, including communication with the master. I only started learning about ZhiWei DouShu later, so I haven’t delved too deep. Currently, I follow a WeChat account and know the person who runs it, occasionally discussing with them.
- Commonalities in mysticism
I hope to understand my partner through star charts, natal charts, and other methods. It’s good to look at all three to see which features are more prominent in each. This will help you see the consistent parts of your chart, which are more fixed. For example, if a feature is very prominent in ZhiWei DouShu but not in the star chart, you might want to consult an astrologer who has studied deeply.
- What to pay attention to when reading mysticism content
If you see negative judgments like misfortune, ominous signs, or setbacks in your charts or star charts, don’t get too hung up on them. A good fortune-teller or astrologer will only touch on these points lightly and focus on the positive aspects to help you benefit and avoid harm. So, it’s best to avoid looking at very negative forecasts, which are usually one-sided. For example, every year, there are five zodiac signs that are said to be affected by the Grand Duke of Jupiter, and every zodiac sign has two years of being affected. Fortune is always ups and downs. Moreover, the zodiac sign only represents the year in the BaZi, which is very one-sided.
In summary, if it’s just for entertainment, feel free to read, but avoid negative information that can scare you. Entertainment is meant to be enjoyable. If you want to use this tool to understand yourself, avoid consulting during tough times when you might be influenced by negative vibes. Fortune-tellers might say comforting things that can be misunderstood, and some might take advantage of you. On a basic understanding, you can find some fortune-tellers or astrologers to consult, or if you’re completely clueless, ask friends who know a bit about it to avoid being conned.
I hope everyone consults rationally!
