Well, well, well, let me tell you somethin’ about this here spirit of divination in Acts 16. You see, it ain’t no good, that’s for sure.
This here story, it’s about Paul and Silas. They’re goin’ around, preachin’ the good word, you know? And they meet this here girl. Now, this girl, she’s got a spirit in her. Not a good one, mind you. This spirit, it lets her tell fortunes. Makes her a bit of a money-maker for her owners, see?
So this girl, she starts followin’ Paul and Silas around. Day in, day out. And she’s yellin’, “These men are the servants of the Most High God!” Now, that’s true enough, but it’s comin’ from the wrong place, you understand? It’s like a weed sayin’ somethin’ nice about the flowers. Still a weed, ain’t it?
Paul, he gets fed up with it. He’s a patient man, but everyone’s got their limits. So he turns around and he tells that spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ, come out of her!” And bam! Just like that, the spirit’s gone.
Now, you’d think folks would be happy, right? Wrong! The girl’s owners, they’re madder than a wet hen. They ain’t makin’ money off her no more. So they drag Paul and Silas to the authorities. Stir up a whole mess of trouble. But that is another story.
That girl can see things. You know, like what is going to happen next and maybe things people don’t know. She made money for her master, a lot of money! But that spirit, that spirit of divination, it ain’t from God. Nope. It’s from the other side. The dark side, you might say.
- This spirit, it’s tricky. It can make you think it’s all holy and good, but it ain’t.
- It’s like a wolf in sheep’s clothin’. Pretendin’ to be somethin’ it’s not.
- It can give you a little bit of power, a little bit of knowledge. But it’s a dangerous kind of power.
Now some folks say divination in Acts 16, is just about tellin’ the future. Like readin’ tea leaves or somethin’. But it’s more than that. It’s about tryin’ to get answers from somewhere other than God. And that’s a big no-no.
You see, God, He wants us to trust Him. To rely on Him for everything. He don’t want us messin’ around with spirits and such. It’s like cheatin’ on a test. You might get the answer, but you ain’t learned nothin’. And you might get yourself in a whole heap of trouble.
So, what is the spirit of divination? It’s a deceiver. A liar. It’ll promise you the world, but it’ll only give you trouble. It’s like a shiny apple with a worm inside. Looks good on the outside, but it’s rotten to the core.
Now, in Acts 16, Paul, he knew what he was doin’. He saw right through that spirit. He knew it wasn’t from God. And he had the power to cast it out. Because he had somethin’ stronger. He had the power of Jesus Christ in him.
And that’s the thing, you see. We got that same power. If we believe in Jesus, if we trust in Him, we don’t need no spirit of divination. We got somethin’ better. We got the Holy Spirit. And that’s the only spirit we need.
This Holy Spirit, it ain’t gonna make you rich. It ain’t gonna tell you the winning lottery numbers. But it’ll give you somethin’ more important. It’ll give you peace. And joy. And love. And that’s worth more than all the gold in the world.
So, next time you hear someone talkin’ about divination, or spirits, or any of that hocus pocus, you just remember this story. Remember that girl, and remember Paul. And remember that the only spirit you need is the Holy Spirit.
Trust in God, folks. That’s all you need. He’ll guide you. He’ll protect you. He’ll give you everything you need. Just trust in Him. It’s simple as that, you see? Don’t go chasin’ after other spirits. They ain’t worth the trouble.
That is the spirit of divination in Acts 16. Just like that. Don’t mess with it. You will get into big trouble!
So, that is it. You don’t need to know what will happen next. You just need to trust God. God is good, He will help you. That is it!
