So, I’ve been getting into birthstones lately. It is kind of a fun little rabbit hole to go down. Today, I was curious about what the birthstone is for Virgo, since that is my sign. I figured it would be a pretty quick search, but boy, was I wrong!
First, I grabbed my phone and opened up the browser. Then I typed in “Virgo birthstone”. The first thing that popped up was blue sapphire.

But then, as I scrolled down, I saw some other options mentioned, like peridot and carnelian. Huh? I thought there was only one birthstone per sign.
I started digging a little deeper. I clicked on a few different websites, and they all seemed to agree that blue sapphire is the main one for Virgo. It’s supposed to represent things like wisdom and integrity.
- Wisdom and integrity, I can get behind that.
But those other stones kept popping up. Apparently, there are “alternative” birthstones, too. I guess it makes sense. Not everyone connects with the same gem, right? Peridot is this pretty green color, and carnelian is a reddish-orange. They are both cool-looking, but I still feel more drawn to the blue sapphire.
My Realization
After all that searching and reading, I realized that birthstones are not as straightforward as I thought. There is not just one right answer, which I guess is kind of cool. It is all about what resonates with you personally. So, even though blue sapphire is the “official” Virgo birthstone, I might check out those other ones, too. You never know, maybe I will find a new favorite!
