Okay, so today I wanted to play around with translating something from Spanish to English. I saw this phrase somewhere, “la hermana de Leo,” and I was like, what does that even mean? So I decided to figure it out.
First, I tried this website that said it could do free and instant translations. It claimed to handle a ton of languages, like 5,900+ or something crazy like that. I typed in “la hermana de Leo” and waited. I also found another website, *, and tried using its dictionary feature. I typed in the same phrase there, too. Then, I found a site that provided example sentences, but it was more focused on just the word “hermana.”
While waiting for the translations, I also looked up some random stuff, like what those options on my car’s window sticker meant. I went to the Chrysler website and typed in my VIN, just to see what features my car had. You know, those acronyms and codes, like “Customer Preferred Package 2tf.” Totally unrelated, I know, but it was a good distraction.
Anyway, back to the translation. I also stumbled upon this tool called DeepL. It said it could translate entire documents really fast and accurately. People seemed to use it a lot, so I gave it a shot, too.
Also, I checked out some language learning sites and found a dictionary of Modern Greek. It was from the Academy of Athens, which sounded pretty official. It had both monolingual and bilingual options, which was cool. I didn’t really need Greek, but I was curious.
Results

So, yeah, it turns out “la hermana de Leo” simply means “Leo’s sister” in English. It wasn’t anything super complicated after all. But hey, I got to explore a bunch of translation tools and learned a few other random things along the way. I guess sometimes the journey is more interesting than the destination, right?
Oh, and I also found out that “hermana” by itself means “sister.” That was pretty obvious in hindsight, but whatever. Mission accomplished, I guess! Now I know what “la hermana de Leo” means, and I can sleep soundly tonight.
