Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to make one of these for a while, and today I finally did it. I’m talking about an amethyst stone mala. You know, those beaded necklaces that people use for meditation and prayer and stuff? Yeah, I made one of those!
First off, I had to get my hands on some amethyst beads. I found these 6mm amethyst beads online. I needed a lot, like 108 of them, plus one extra for the “guru” bead.
Next up, I needed something to string them on. I used this strong, durable thread, the kind that you use for making jewelry. Make sure it is the durable type, or all your efforts will be wasted if the thread broke. I picked a color that kind of matched the purple of the amethyst, nothing too flashy.
I laid out all the beads and got to work. The process is pretty simple, you just string the beads onto the thread, but you have to tie a knot between each one. It’s kind of a pain, to be honest, and it took me way longer than I thought it would. But you know what? It was also kind of relaxing, in a weird way. It’s like, your hands are busy, so your mind can just chill out.
I’m not going to lie, it took me almost a whole afternoon to do this. My fingers were getting sore from tying all those knots. It’s the knotting between each of the beads that took so much time. But I kept at it, and after what felt like forever, I finally finished stringing all 108 beads and added the bigger guru bead at the end.
The last thing I did was tie off the ends of the thread and make a little tassel. I used some extra thread for that, just wrapped it around a bunch of times and tied it off. And boom! Mala complete. I did it.
- Patience is key. It takes time, so don’t rush it.
- Make sure you have enough beads. You don’t want to get halfway through and realize you’re short.
- Use good quality thread. You don’t want your mala breaking after all that work.
- If you’re new to this, maybe start with a smaller mala, like 27 beads instead of 108, just to get the hang of it.
Here are some tips if you wanna try making your own mala:
I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but I made it myself, and that’s what matters. Now I can use it during my meditation practice. I’ve heard that amethyst is good for calming the mind, so hopefully, this will help me focus better. We’ll see how it goes!
